Friday Mass Uniform Policy
October begins our Friday Mass Uniform policy.  Please be sure your child(ren) are dressed appropriately and according to the guidelines in the Student Family Handbook.  The students looked magnificent in their Mass attire last week! Check out these excellent examples:

Seventh graders (left) Drew Tackett sports the Boys’ Mass Uniform including bow tie and St. Joe’s crewneck sweatshirt while Olivia Coffman models a great example of a Girls’ Mass Uniform skirt with a short-sleeved collared blouse.  Likewise, 8th graders Cameron Kelly wears the Boys’ Mass Uniform with a long-sleeved dress shirt and traditional tie and Emma Budzowski not only wears an approved/acceptable cardigan sweater but also has saddle shoes - an excellent choice for Mass, Seasonal, or Regular Uniforms.

Story Time with Fr. Jared
Father Jared snuggles up in our giant reading rewards chair to read to Mrs. Martin’s 3rd-grade class.  Who will be the next Guest Reader? Students can earn time in the chair for positive behavior during Library as well as for meeting AR goals.  It’s one small step...rather, one giant leap up for Fr. Jared

We hope you were able to attend our first HASA P.E.N. meeting with guest presenters Adam Testa, Juvenile Probation Officer with Summit County Court, and Chief Jack Davis of our own Cuyahoga Falls Police Department.  Though some of the topics and information may have been surprising, perhaps even shocking to hear, this topic is just as important as any other safety issues and precautions for which we must educate our students and inform our parents and stakeholders.  We thank Mr. Testa and Chief Davis for the time they generously give to St. Joseph Parish School and our community.  The next P.E.N. will be in March; see you there!

PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY!

It was a busy day Thursday as Kennedy Filipczak shared in her mom’s auction item win from last year’s Blue and Gold Gala and worked as Principal for the Day.  Guided by Mrs. DePasquale, Miss Filipczak had a busy day of greeting guests, attending meetings, observing classrooms, sending emails, and even making a One Call!  Great job, Miss Filipczak!

Welcome Back!

Our 2018-19 school is off to a successful start.  It was wonderful to see so many of you on the first day of school!  Please remember, beginning Monday, 8/27 anyone entering the building must stop in the Main Office to sign in, get a Visitor’s tag, and sign out before exiting the building.  For safety purposes, this needs to be done on every occasion no matter what length of time will be spent in the building.  Thank you for your continued cooperation!

PM DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

Thank you for cooperating with the new PM Dismissal procedures.  The purpose of the change is to better ensure the safety and whereabouts of our students.  Parents/guardians/adults are doing a terrific job staying in the Parent Zone, waiting patiently until your child is closer to the front of the line before walking over to retrieve them.   It is important for our teachers to get to know new faces and who goes with whom.
Once your child has been dismissed from line s/he must stay with you.  If you need to speak with other parents, please use the crosswalk to go back over to the spaces side of the parking lot to hold those conversations.  If you need to speak with a child’s teacher, please schedule those meetings for a time other than during dismissal.
Lastly, we request that no adults enter the building between 3:00 - 3:30.  If you need to pick your child up for an early dismissal this needs to be done before 3:00.

Mission Mondays are Back

Mission Monday will be the last Monday of each month and for a minimum $2 donation your child may have a Casual Dress day (no hats permitted).  This month, on 8/27, we are collecting to “Help a Hero” and purchase new bath towels or twin sheet sets for soldiers on long deployments.  If you are able to give more, you are welcome to send in a new set of sheets or a towel. Thank you!
NOTE: If Mission Monday is a Phys. Ed. day for your child, please be sure s/he has tennis shoes to wear as students will NOT be changing clothes this day.  Miss Verbanik and Mrs. DePasquale will monitor if this is proving to be an issue and adjust accordingly.

Registration is still open for our 1st Annual 5K and 1 Mile event on Sept. 15 sponsored by HASA (Home and School Association).  The homeroom with the highest participation earns a pizza party!  Monies raised go towards our playground fund.  Let’s do this!  Go to http://www.saintjoe.org/5k.

Thanks to so many of you that have already paid your annual HASA dues and have gotten started on your calendar sales.  These funds allow us to continue to provide great programming for the students and families as well as support the needs of our teachers and school.

VOLUNTEERS:

Please go online to http://www.saintjoe.org/schoolvolunteers to sign up for the way that you can best contribute to the success of our school.  NOTE: Box Tops is not included in that list; separate info will be coming as details of how that will work are still being finalized.  Thanks to those homeroom parents who have already stepped up to take on that counting role!  Each homeroom needs a counter, so if this interests you, check with your child’s teacher to see if s/he still needs someone.
