GAR Foundation Grant

Congratulation to Miss Megan Fearon, X-STREAM Science Teacher, and Mrs. Corrine Mack, Technology Teacher, as they were awarded a $14,990 grant from the GAR Foundation Educator Initiative Grant for the project: Building Community through Coding and Real-World Problem Solving.

Miss Fearon and Mrs. Mack will work with students and staff members to create projects that will strengthen our students’ 21st Century Learning skills: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Innovation; while strengthening their skills in writing and the new literacy of Coding. Technology & X-STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and mathematics) classes to develop and evaluate faith-based Problem Based Learning (PBL) situations utilizing coding and robotics to solve problems.  Coding fosters critical thinking by requiring a sequence of logical steps. We will utilize coding not only to solve problems but also to connect a sequence of steps with the writing process.

And, yes, learning to do all that is essential for students to be successful in life, but what’s really “Falcon-tastic” is that the GAR grant plan will also foster the implementation of our OCSAA Accreditation goal for Catholic Identity, “The students will communicate their understanding of the Catholic Gospel Values Faith, Hope, and Charity through the lives of the Saints.”  The plan incorporates prayer partners which will integrate intentional worship into our buddy time with faith-based technology and coding applications. It is our intent to take our faith into the 21st century of praise and prayer by learning about the Saints lives and applying their situations to modern-day situations. This is definitely an out-of-the-box thinking opportunity for our students and teachers. We are looking forward to partnering with Kent State University for both staff and student development.
