Go Falcons!
It was another great weekend for our Falcons. A special shout out to our 3rd grade boys and girls basketball teams who won their first games as Falcons! As we wrap up week 3 of the season, we want to pass along a few updates/reminders related to questions we have received this week:
Even though SJPS will be remote learning this week, CYO practices will still be held at their regular scheduled times. However, if school gets canceled any day for a calamity day, then the building will be closed and no practices will take place. We will communicate via email if this is the case.
We have had several questions about the two spectators per athlete rule and CYO has provided some examples to clarify the rule. We appreciate our Falcon families respecting this rule to keep everyone safe.
- The rule is two spectators per athlete, not person. So, coaches are NOT permitted an additional 2 spectators.
If one family has only 1 spectator per athlete, it is not permissible to “give up” your extra spectator to another family who wants to bring in 3 spectators.
If one spectator is a child, the child must remain with the adult at all times.
The basketball undershirt uniform rule appears to be a point of emphasis this year. As a reminder, grades 3 - 8 may wear an undershirt that is black, white, beige or the predominant color of the uniform and the same color shall be worn by all teammates. High school players’ undershirts must be the same color as the predominant color of the uniform and the same color shall be worn by all teammates.
Team Spotlight: 6th Grade Boys Basketball Team
Coach: Harry Lehman, Randy Kerr
Student-Athletes: Ben Arnold, Carter Campbell, Lincoln Feisthamel, Andrew Kerr, Grady Lehman, James Myers, Justin Partsch, Noah Randall, Aaron Snock
The 6th grade team is a tight knit group that is well-balanced with solid guard play and height at the post. Coach Lehman shared that their goal is to strive to fulfill their potential as CYO students and athletes. He is proud that the boys support each other and love to celebrate each other’s successes. Following a tough battle this weekend against St. Barnabas, the team will take on St. Hilary next Saturday.
Team Spotlight: 5th Grade Boys Basketball Team
Coach: Jason Oden, Harry Lehman, Greg Marchione
Student-Athletes: Dylan Cassidy, Christopher Davis, Harry Lehman, Matthew Marchione, Dominic Oden, Colton Schulda
The 5th grade team consists of all St. Joseph Parish School students and has been playing together since 3rd grade. Coach Oden shared that their team goal is to improve each week. He feels that the boys have worked to improve on their fundamentals each year and looks for them to continue to work hard and to stay disciplined on the court. After coming off a tough loss to Seton, they will take on St. Barnabas next Saturday.

- Our goal is to offer athletic opportunities to all St. Joseph parish and school children. If you have financial concerns or have any questions regarding the registration process, please email [email protected].
MANDATORY CYO PRE-PARTICIPATION FORM: All 5 pages of the CYO Pre-Participation Form need to be completed, signed by a physician and witness, and submitted to your coach prior to the first practice. This form has been updated since last year and is attached to this email or you may visit https://www.ccdocle.org/service-areas/cyo-athletics/resources and choose the "Pre-Participation (Physical Form)" tab to download the form. Form collection will be strongly enforced by CYO, so please make sure your child has had a physical within the last 13 months.
COVID-19 INFORMATION: We understand parents are weighing the risk of sport participation against the health and well-being benefits of the sport for their child(ren). Please know St. Joseph Athletic Association will be proactive in keeping our student-athletes and coaches safe; however, it is impossible to guarantee 100% safety.
