Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled program offered during the summer to connect children with their faith. The origins of VBS can be traced back to Illinois in 1894. A Sunday school teacher named D. T. Miles felt she was limited by time constraints in teaching the Bible to children. So, she started a daily Bible school to teach children during the summer. Over time, it has grown into a standard program in many churches in the United States.
We call it VBS, but it’s really more like a camp than a school. VBS is not about tests or worksheets. VBS, at its core, is just about planting seeds of faith in those that participate. We do that with decorations, crafts, music, dancing, snacks, bubbles, and lots of jumping around in God’s Love. VBS is an excellent opportunity for children to learn about God while hanging out with their friends and parish family!
The theme this year is "Christmas in July!" The joy of Christmas it’s not always easy to maintain throughout the year. But to have continuous joy in the heart is necessary in order to reflect the love of Jesus Christ on the outside. It’s also good to remember the positive qualities and values associated with Christmas - giving generously, acting with love and compassion, and forgiving. And lastly - Jesus should be celebrated every day. The impact of Jesus’ whole life lasts throughout the year, every year, and it will continue to do so even through viruses and lockdowns.
