Vacation Bible School is a fun-filled program offered during the summer to connect children with their faith. The origins of VBS can be traced backto Illinois in 1894. A Sunday school teacher named D. T. Miles, felt she was limited by time constraints in teaching the Bible to children. So, she started a daily Bible school to teach children during the summer. Over time, it has grown to a standard program in many churches in the United States.
We call it VBS, but it’s really more like a camp than school. VBS is not about tests or worksheets. VBS, at its core, is just about planting seeds of faith in those that participate. We do that with decorations, crafts, music, dancing, snacks, bubbles, and lots of jumping around in God’s Love. VBS is an excellent opportunity for children to learn about God while hangingout with their friends and parish family!
Our theme this year is centered around the Olympics called, "Go for Gold, Go for God!" Just like all Olympians heading to Tokyo this summer, we too are "training" for a great prize - heaven! We run the "race" of life with faith, love, and the help of Christ. Just like the Olympics are a worl wide competition, our Catholic Churche is a worldwide "team" of believers. This will be an opportunity to learn about and appreciate different communities all over the world. We are called to support our team with love, mercy and encouragement as God does for us.
